Rock Bottom Has A Basement

FROM THE BOTTLE TO BORROWED TIME

A raw, honest story of addiction, loss, and the hard road back.

About Tim Moylan

“A story of addiction, loss, and the hard road back.”

How many chances does one person get?

Growing up as one of seven children in the Nebraska Sandhills, Timothy never imagined the choices he made would one day lead him to the brink of losing everything. As alcohol slowly took hold of his life, he discovered a hard truth: sometimes rock bottom isn't the end... because rock bottom has a basement.

Words From Readers

What People Are Saying About "Rock Bottom Has a Basement"

A gift for story telling

A gift for story telling

I just finished your book. You absolutely do have a gift for story-telling. Your story touched my heart in so many ways. Alcoholic parent, smoking/drinking, DUI's, jail, Valley Hope, prison, ambulance rides out of Ainsworth due to a 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes' way of living, life-flight, prison, and Wilmar Electric. All of these things occurred/touched our family also and it brought back so many memories. A few good... mostly bad. I am proud of you for not only becoming sober but for being brave enough to lay it all out there for everyone to read. Also, for working for the family you want to have and for maintaining such a close relationship with your siblings. That's not always easy in and of itself. I am terribly sorry you have experienced so much loss. My heart was breaking for you.

Incredibly Powerful

Incredibly Powerful

I just finished Rock Bottom Has a Basement and honestly didn’t know what to expect going in, but once I started, I couldn’t put it down. I grew up knowing you and your family, and even with that, I had no idea about so many of the struggles and challenges you went through.Thank you for having the courage to share such a personal story so openly. Your honesty made the book incredibly powerful, and I came away with an even greater respect for you. I really loved the book.”

Tim Sets it on the table

Tim Sets it on the table

The book doesn’t let you off any easier. Tim doesn’t dress any of it up; he sets it on the table and lets you look at it. Some of it is hard to read. Some of it is funnier than it has any business being. Both take nerve. Doing them in the same chapter takes more. The humbling part is realizing how much you can miss about a person. Everybody’s carrying something they never mention, and most of us never find out what. Glad he’s still around to have written the thing. If you know Tim, read it. If you don’t, read it anyway. Well done, Tim. Genuinely.

An inspiring and powerful read.

An inspiring and powerful read.

I read this book in 24 hours. Tim wrote with such raw emotion that his story felt relatable in many ways. Alcoholism is a devastating disease that can escalate quickly, and Tim’s journey shows how hope, prayer, the support of family, and perseverance helped him overcome it. An inspiring and powerful read.

You are the amazing one

You are the amazing one

Read the entire thing last night. Great read. I had no idea how bad you were when we hung out. I'm glad you found your way. And I have no doubt it was the holy spirit that reached you. I feel a common theme through out was your friend groups being like family, you may have found some great people along your journeys but the common denominator was you. YOU'RE the amazing one. I remember you brought out the best in everyone around you. You. I hope all the best for you and your family. Until I see you again... love ya bronco Timmy!

A Raw, Unapologetic Journey Back from the Edge

A Raw, Unapologetic Journey Back from the Edge

Rock Bottom Has a basement is the kind of book that grabs you by the throat from the first page and refuses to let go until the very end. I couldn't put it down.
When you think a character—or a real-life human being—has hit their absolute limit, this book reveals that the floor can always drop a little further. It doesn’t shy away from the dark, ugly, and brutal reality of hitting rock bottom—and then falling through the floorboards.
What makes this book truly exceptional, though, isn't just the depth of the darkness—it's the way it handles the light. In a world full of cynical stories, this book genuinely restored my faith in second chances. It proves that no matter how deep you fall, redemption isn't just a fairy-tale concept; it’s something hard-earned, messy, and entirely possible.
If you are looking for an emotionally raw, unputdownable read that will break your heart and then piece it back together with real hope, pick this up immediately.

An Interrogation of conscience

An Interrogation of conscience

I've spent decades reading spiritual books, self-help books and memoirs, but above the intellectual pursuit of understanding addiction and pain, this one hit close to the heart and made me feel the gravity of the reality of addiction and pain. I grew up during the same time and in the same place and wonder could this have been me? This book made me revisit questions I should be asking myself on a more regular basis. And it also made me search my soul for the depth of gratitude I need to have for the friends, family, and my spouse who have bailed me out time and time again. This book is more than a story; it's wake-up call for all of us. It's filled with memories, advice without being a lecture, and a verbal painting of what love and loyalty look like in real time.

Master storytelling meets relatability

Master storytelling meets relatability

Timothy Moylan is a master storyteller, and wow does he have a story to tell. When someone nearly dies two times and then finds a way to LIVE, it's a good story to listen to.This book is so important. Raw honesty, relatability and simplicity take us on a journey to the bottom of the basement. As you read, you won't find a 'how to'. It is a deep dive into the life of someone who did. So inspiring!! I highly recommend!!

Raw Honesty

Raw Honesty

Great Read!
I don't remember the last time I read a book in less than 24 hours. Raw honesty of the lowest points of his life and through the pain of unimaginable loss at such an early age cannot be easy to write and share with the world. Tim Moylan did it beautifully, I highly recommend this read.

Anything is Possible

Anything is Possible

I read this book in less than 24 hours. At the end of every chapter, I wanted more. It is heartfelt, sincere, but most of all HONEST. In the best way, this book encouraged me to do some self reflecting of how my own trauma affects me. Tim writes about the good, the bad, the ugly, the sad, and absolutely leaves it all on the table. He truly shows how he turned trauma and despair into the realization that he has a life worth living. This book shows the power of family…they never gave up on him and most importantly( even though he wanted to), he never gave up on himself, fully. What a rise from the ashes!! Bravo, Timmy.
